Main features [edit]
Things allows tasks to be subdivided into several sections, which correspond to parts of the Getting Things Done methodology:
Collect [edit]
- Inbox is used to collect tasks which have not been filed in a specific place yet.
Focus [edit]
- Today highlights tasks which are due on the current day or are intended to be completed that day.
- Next is an overview of upcoming tasks in all of the program's areas and projects.
- Someday is used to catalogue tasks which need to be done, but are not time critical.
- Scheduled contains recurring and delayed tasks and projects.
Organize [edit]
- Projects are collections of tasks related to a specific larger task.
- Areas can be used to collate tasks which correspond to a similar theme.
Additional features [edit]
- Quick entry allows users to add tasks via a small window which can be activated within any program using a global keyboard shortcut.
- Tags let users further describe tasks using the popular tagging organisation paradigm.
- Team collaboration allows users to assign tasks to other team members.
- iCal synchronisation
- Logbook lets users view all completed tasks in one view.
- Dock badging allows users to see how many items are due on the current day by looking at the application's dock icon.
iOS versions [edit]
Cultured Code has also released mobile versions of Things for iOS – one version for the iPad, and another version which runs on both the iPhone and iPod touch.[4] The desktop version can synchronize tasks with the mobile versions of Things over a Wi-Fi network using Bonjour service discovery.
Things Cloud [edit]
In 2011, Cultured Code began beta testing a new cloud service to replace the old sync technology. The new service is called Things Cloud, it stores a user's to-dos and automatically keeps them updated across all the user's devices. Users can set up a Things Cloud account from within any of the Things beta apps.
